1943-1986
The Railway Administration decided during 1939 to establish a central training center so that railway servants, especially those directly responsible for the efficient transport of passengers and goods can be properly trained. The cornerstone of the ornate sandstone building near Kaalfontein station which is known today as the Railway College, Esselen Park, was laid on 10 December 1943 by the then Minister of Transport, His Honor F.C. Sturrock.
The SA Railways Police training officially moved to Esselenpark Railway College in stages between 1947 and 1955: irst intake: The first group of trainees began their course at Esselenpark on 14 August 1947.
